Dental checks: prevention as treatment
Nowadays, there are many dental clinics (usually franchises) that perform large treatments of oral rehabilitation, without any control of their patients afterwards. It is very important to clean up the mouths of our patients and prevent dental diseases associated with poor eating habits, incorrect patterns of dental hygiene, lack of regular checks ups ... etc. It is therefore essential to make at least one annual visit to the general dentist, in which a part of performing the basic periodontal maintenance (dental hygiene), specific radiographs (bitewing) must be done to assess the potential decays that develop in the spaces between teeth. These decays are very difficult to detect in its early stages, because they do not make sensitivity or discomfort to the patient and dentist eye does not detect it because they are hidden underneath interdental contacts. An initial radiographic control can detect these decay in time and solve it with simple filling.
With these two simple X-rays the dentist is able to detect any interdental decay, and prevent the advance in depth affectin the nerve of the tooth .
Once the decays are healed with fillings, it will be particularly important to teach the patients a correct interdental hygiene with interdental brushes and dental floss , using both alternately in the last brushing (brushing your teeth before going to bed prevents bacteria and plaque in the mouth while sleeping) .
